Geraldine Joachim
Saratogan Geraldine Audrey Joachim died Feb. 7 of complications from Alzheimer's disease, from which she suffered for several years. She was 67.
Born Nov. 13, 1934, in Ridgewod, N.Y., Joachim was an honors graduate of Dominican High School in New York. She met her future husband, Peter Joachim, in 1952 while they were attending New York University. Four years later, they married.
Joachim worked for eight years as secretary to the president of Union Carbide in New York but left after she began having children. The family moved to California when Peter was transferred by IBM to work at one of its advanced computing systems labs. The company later sent the family back to the East Coast, then back again to California, where they remained.
After her four children were grown, Joachim became a travel agent, working for Quement Travel in San Jose and Alpine Travel in Saratoga. She was also active with the Montalvo Service Group, a women's auxiliary that raises funds for Montalvo--known as Villa Montalvo until last year. Joachim also helped run the Montalvo gift shop.
Survivors include husband Peter M. Joachim of Saratoga; daughter Patrice Miller of Pacifica; son Paul Joachim of San Francisco; and one grandchild.
Memorial services have been held. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2065 W. El Camino Real, Suite C, Mountain View, 94040.
