"The Final Farewell: End-of-Life Issues from a Jewish Perspective" is the topic of a panel discussion to be held March 31 at 10:30 a.m. in the social hall of Congregation Beth David, 19700 Prospect Road, Saratoga.
Sharone Hadassah is sponsoring the panel, which is open to the general public.
Attorney Marcia Kaplan will discuss the Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care, its impact and implications, how to work with the family in designing and personalizing the document and how it is implemented.
Rabbi Daniel Pressman of Congregation Beth David will offer religious guidelines for end-of-life issues and discuss the resources for spiritual support for the family from both the synagogue and the community.
Pam Umann, a social worker with MidPeninsula HomeCare and Hospice, will address the emotional, social and family issues surrounding a dying family member, as well as the implications of managing care at home.
Dr. Elizabeth Menkin, a geriatric specialist and hospice physician for Kaiser Permanente, will talk about medical priorities and options, the importance of involving the patient and family in decision-making, and the role of the physician.
In addition, Ken Kaye, a Los Altos attorney, will share his personal experiences dealing with the death of a loved one.
