The Westmont golf team opened the league play last week with two wins over Leigh in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Warriors handled the Longhorns 229-242 at Summitpointe in Milpitas and 204-226 at San Jose Muni.

Sophomore Conner McDonald shot even par with a 36 at Muni. Brent Picard finished at 40, Casey Cripe at 41, Tony DiPiero at 42 and Elliott Danforth at 45.

Earlier in the week, Picard shot a 41, McDonald a 43, Nathan Cook a 45, Michael Bottenberg a 49 and Danforth a 51 in the win over Leigh.

Saratoga, meanwhile, cruised to a 196-204 win over Monta Vista in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Kevin Nabbefeld and Daniel Ruby each fired three-over 37s at the Saratoga Country Club to lead the Falcons to the win over the Matadors.

    Besty Masiello wins honor

Saratoga graduate Betsy Masiello was one of five Wellesley College field hockey players named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academica Squad.

Student-athletes selected to the squad must be a starter or key reserve with a minimum 3.3 grade point average.

Masiello helped Wellesley to a 12-6 record and to the New England Conference championship game last fall. The school is located in Wellesley, Mass.

    Football Clinic

Professional and college football coaches will be the featured speakers at the Football Clinic of Champions on March 24, 11:30 a.m., at Mountain View High School.

Gil Haskell, offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, and Al Saunders, receivers coach for the St. Louis Rams, will top the list of speakers who will each give a 50-minute presentation. Haskell was a member of the Green Bay coaching staff when the Packers won the Super Bowl in 1997 in 2000.

The clinic is targeted to high school and youth football coaches but is open to the general public. The cost is $35 per person or $30 each for groups of five or more. The clinic runs to 5 p.m.

Call clinic director Ray Calcagno at 650.969.3295 or visit www.ccsa.net.
