Twenty-five of California's most prominent booksellers will sell books, prints and autographs on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Villa Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road.
Many of the books are first editions, out-of-print books and rare selections. The collection will include: children's books, cookbooks, books about California and the West, illustrated books, literary first editions, books on art, architecture, music, science and technology, general antiquarian books and autographs.
Among the offerings will be Alice inWonderland, signed by the original Alice, and Further Addresses upon the American Road, signed by Herbert Hoover.
The Book Fair will feature some 10,000 books. Autograph dealer Cristophe Stickel of Pacific Grove, will be bringing authentic autographs from such varied sources as Babe Ruth and Ulysses S. Grant.
Used books are needed for the "Montalvo Specials" table at the book fair. The specials table features hardback books and quality paperbacks, according to Susan Klein, chairwoman of the sixth annual book fair.
The book sale benefits Montalvo's Phelan Library, which volunteers are working to restore to its 1930 ambiance by renovating the library and building a collection. The library currently has about 800 volumes, but the committee is eager to acquire more for the period up to 1930.
"We are looking for books to be purchased or donated which would be authentic and reminiscent of Senator Phelan's library," says Anne Louden of Saratoga, chair of the Phelan Library Committee.
Admission to the book fair is $4. For more information or to donate books, call Susan Klein at 978-5497.
