Republican Women meeting planned
West Valley Republican Women will meet on Thursday, March 20, at 11:30 a.m. at the Saratoga Country Club, 21990 Prospect Road, to hear guest speaker Doris Whitney, Region VIII director of the Northern Division of the California Republican Women, Federated.
She will talk about the structure of the state federation, the process for participation in state Republican Party conventions and her firsthand experience at the 1997 presidential inauguration. Call Nan Maier at 395-8158 for reservations. The cost is $10.
Recycling facilities tour
Wonder what really happens to recycled waste? The League of Women voters of Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno is offering a go-see tour of the recycling facilities at Green Valley Disposal Co. at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25.
The tour departs from the Saratoga Community Center, 19655 Allendale Ave., and will return at 2:30 p.m.
Green Valley will prepare a barbecue lunch. The tour costs $10 per person. For more information, call Fran Krezek at 867-1029.
Retirement home stages egg hunt
The third annual Saratoga Children's Easter Egg Hunt will be held at 11 a.m. March 30 at the Saratoga Retirement Community (formerly the Oddfellows Home) on Fruitvale Ave.
The Saratoga High School Interact Club organizes the egg hunt, games and photos of children with the Easter Bunny. In addition, the public is invited to the retirement home to share in an Easter sunrise celebration.
English Tea and Silent Auction at Sacred Heart
"Feathers in Our Hats" is the theme of the ninth annual English Tea & Silent Auction sponsored by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Branch of the American Association of University Women on Saturday, April 12, at Sacred Heart Church's Geary Hall, 13724 Saratoga Ave.
The event is a benefit for homeless women and children. Doors open at 1 p.m. for the silent auction. Tea is served at 2 p.m. Sue Parks of Beach Blanket Babylon fame is the featured entertainer. For information and reservations, call 741-1616. Tickets are $18.
Tour of Fremont Older house and garden
Docents will lead one-hour tours of Woodhills, former home of the crusading San Francisco newspaper editor Fremont Older and his wife, Cora.
Now a part of the Fremont Older Open Space Preserve, the house, in the foothills near Cupertino and Saratoga, was a meeting place for writers, including Carl Sandburg, Bret Harte and Sinclair Lewis, as well as artists and politicians.
