Dentist will fill potential PO site

The planning commission recently approved a use permit for a new dentist's office at 20514 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road, wiping away any likelihood that the building will be used as a future post office building.

An ad-hoc committee working on a general plan for the Village public safety center had eyed the former Wells Fargo Bank building, directly across Highway 9 from the current fire station and proposed safety center site.

The committee has been considering moving the Village postal station, currently operating along Saratoga Avenue, off the public safety center site to allow for expansion of fire and sheriff's facilities.

But Dr. Anthony Ellenikiotis has been working on a purchase of the old Wells Fargo building through Deerfield Realty Corporation for almost six months, Deerfield's Erik Doyle said last week.

Doyle said he had never been approached by the city or the postal service about a potential purchase of the 5,297-square-foot building.

Under the permit approved last week by the planning commission, Ellenikiotis, who operates dental offices in Saratoga and San Jose, would use 3,682 square feet of the Highway 9 building for his new office.

    Sanborn-Skyline forest days begin

The annual Forest Conservation Days have begun at Sanborn-Skyline County Park above Saratoga. Public open-house days are March 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the event, resource specialists and volunteer foresters will be on hand to give interpretive hikes. The park will also host wood-cutting demonstrations and workshops.

Entrance fees for the event are $4 per vehicle. For more information, contact the Sanborn-Skyline park office at 408.867.9959.

    Family board funds programs

The county's Children and Families First Commission recently announced a $4 million initiative throughout the county aimed at boosting kids' preparedness for school by improving early childhood education and health.

For more information about the program, call 408.289.5330 or visit the commission's website at www.santaclarakids.org.
