Teacher remembers a heroic teacher ... when
Your March 8 article about the Redwood Middle School teacher who became a hero by rescuing a student who was choking on a marble deserved front-page coverage!
In the early '60s, I often told a little girl named Anne to stop running in the hallway. Because I was her Foothill School principal, she would often slow down a little.
Fortunately for us, she never really slowed down for long. It was Anne Brazil-Kolb's fast action that brought her to one of our Strawberry Park School kids in time to probably save his life.
Thanks, Anne, and don't ever slow down!

Orchard should stay as a piece of history
As a 32-year resident of this beautiful community, I wholeheartedly agree with Willys Peck in his March 8 "Stereopticon" column. We should keep the Heritage Orchard intact, except for the land needed for the expansion of the library.
When our daughter was in college at UCLA she brought home one of her classmates (actually her future husband) who was born and raised in Los Angeles. As they drove up Saratoga Avenue and Big Basin Way he said, "I didn't know you were from a small mountain town." People should realize that our abundance of trees, yellow mustard grass fields and lovely rolling hills are what give our town its distinctive and wonderful character. Please, before it's all built-up with million-dollar houses, let's, at least, save a bit of our history.
Speaking of history, we do have a museum. I have been a docent at the Saratoga Historical Museum for more than a year and have sat there many a day when there have been no visitors. We welcome residents and out of town guests to come and see the pictures and artifacts of Saratoga's past, so that they and their children can look into the future. The address is 20450 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road (near Oak Street). Telephone 408. 867.4311 for times.
