Mayor Jim Shaw's memorial tree to be dedicated March 24
The memorial tree and plaque for former Saratoga Mayor Jim Shaw, who died in August, will be dedicated on March 24, at 3:30 p.m. With recommendations from city staff, Shaw's wife, Barbara, made the final choice for the location of the coast live oak tree, which now stands near the south corner of the administrative building outside City Hall.
According to councilman Evan Baker, Shaw's family penned the wording on the plaque, which ends with the nickname "Gentleman Jim."
City hires a turf expert for Congress Springs Park
The City Council approved a contract on March 15, with David M. Moyer Consulting Group of Campbell, for consulting services on the design and construction of turf for the Congress Springs Park playfields improvement project. The agreement is for services not to exceed $17,955. It includes selecting the proper turf-grass for the specific needs of the user groups and testing the material prior to installation.
Saratoga Youth Commission dinner to benefit teens
Anyone interested in showing support for the Saratoga Youth Commission is invited to the "Family Night Out" at Armadillo Willy's restaurant in Cupertino on March 28. The restaurant will donate 20 percent of purchases, made by people who identify themselves as Youth Commission supporters, to the commission. Armadillo Willy's is at 10100 S. De Anza Blvd., and the promotion will last from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
One member of the Youth Commission, Abhik Pramanik, as well as recreation supervisor and city staff liaison to the commission, Beverly Tucker, will give a presentation to the Good Government Group on March 28, at 7:15 p.m. The public presentation will be held at Our Lady of Fatima in the St. Raymond Room.
The speakers will discuss expansion of youth services and maintaining adequate programs for Saratoga's growing youth population. Call 408.252.0131 for more information.
