    Hazel Lester

    Hazel Barnes Lester of Saratoga died on March 2, at the age of 75.

    Born April 23, 1924, in Porterville, Calif., Lester earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from UC-Berkeley in 1946. After her husband, the late William Lester, returned from his Naval service during World War II, the couple settled in the Santa Clara Valley, raised a family and continued the Lester family orchard business.

    Lester was a member of the First Congregational Church of San Jose, Good Samaritan Hospital Auxiliary, the PTAs of her children's schools, Cupertino de Oro, the Republican Party and the PEO, an international nonprofit, philanthropic and educational women's organization. She and her husband also contributed to the California History Center and Foundation, the UC-Davis Alumni Association and the Vallco Industrial Park in Cupertino.

    Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Stan and Sheri Lester, George and Cindy Lester, and Russ and Kathy Lester; son Bill Lester and daughter Marie Lester Adams; also 12 grandchildren.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the California History Center, De Anza College, 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, 95014; the PEO, P.O. Box 1099, Alhambra, Calif., 91802-1099; or to the Sempervirens Fund, Drawer BE, Los Altos, 94023.

    Jay Burger

    Longtime Saratogan Jay A. Burger died on March 5, at the age of 92.

    Born Jan. 13, 1908, in San Francisco, Burger was a resident of Saratoga for 50 years. He was a professor at San Jose State University for 31 years.

    Survivors include wife of 60 years, Dorothy Burger of Saratoga; nephews, Carl Burger of Orcas Island, Wash., and Kenneth Burger of Richmond; niece Jacqueline Palmer of Redwood City; and cousins Crystal Grabil of Avila Beach and Mary Lundgren of Santa Maria.

    Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Southwest Indian Foundation, P.O. Box 86, Gallup, N.M. 87302.

    Marilyn Westbrook

    Saratoga resident, Marilyn Westbrook, died on Feb. 22, at Kaiser Hospital, Santa Clara, at the age of 69.

    Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Ohio, Westbrook worked as a real estate agent.

    Survivors include children Scott, Kent, Bryant and Holly Westbrook; two grandchildren and two brothers.

    A celebration of Westbrook's life has been held.
