Aegis Gallery exhibits Davis' 'Starr & Stripes'
Saratogan Starr Davis is Aegis Gallery's featured artist for the month of April. Beginning March 30, Davis will exhibit Starr and Stripes, an exhibit of her two main media forms: watercolor paintings and ceramic sculptures.
A reception for the artist, including music by bassist David Duret, takes place April 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs through April 25. Aegis Gallery is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 2. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
Cinequest founder is featured reader at fiction lounge
Halfden O. Hussie, co-founder and director of San Jose's Cinequest Film Festival, is the featured reader at Michael J.'s Fiction Lounge on March 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Blue Rock Shoot coffeehouse, 14523 Big Basin Way. In addition to his work with Cinequest, Hussie has directed two independent films, He's Still There and Still Waters Burn. At the Lounge, he will read from his screenplay Strip to the Soul and from his new novel, To the Dogs.
Hosted by San Jose novelist Michael J. Vaughn, the Lounge takes place the last Thursday of every month and is followed by an open mic at which time novelists, poets or musicians can read or perform.
Bike repair guru shares his fix-it tips at REI
As part of its series of community lectures and programs, REI Saratoga hosts bicycle repair expert and author of Anybody's Bike Book, Tom Cuthbertson, on March 30 for a presentation titled Bike Repair Basics. Cuthbertson will discuss the variety and best uses of bike models on the market--road bikes, mountain bikes and cruisers--demonstrate quick and easy ways to repair them and share the best methods for preventing bike theft. He will also teach participants how to perform a basic safety check before each ride and how to put together an emergency tool kit. The program is free and open to the public. REI is in the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center. For information, call 871-8765.
