Saratoga NewsNews BriefsMeetings scheduled for celebration plans The Saratoga Lions Club, which is coordinating the Saratoga July 3rd Hometown Celebration, invites entertainment groups interested in participating in the Hometown Celebration program to attend a meeting Tuesday, March 31, at 4 p.m. at City Hall. Community organizations that wish to provide activities or informational material at the event should attend a meeting on Tuesday, April 7, also at 4 p.m. and at City Hall. The Saratoga Hometown Celebration is scheduled for July 3 at Villa Montalvo. For more information, call Lion president Marlene Duffin at 867-1410. City is looking for more volunteers Volunteer Saratoga is looking for help. Minutes-keepers, day and nature camp assistants and a Kinder Club assistant are all needed to help with city programs. Several individuals are requested to volunteer to take minutes at city commission meetings. The position requires attendance at one evening meeting monthly, and excellent written communication and word-processing skills are needed. Volunteers at day and nature camps are needed for at least two weeks for morning or afternoon shifts from mid-June to mid-August, Mondays through Fridays. The volunteers will assist the staff in programs ranging from games and theme-related activities to singing, creative dramatics and storytelling. Training is available, but volunteer spots are limited. Kinder Club volunteers will help the instructor set up activities for preschool-age children Monday or Wednesday mornings. Residents interested in any of these positions can call Lori Burns at 868-1252. Local author will speak at library Local author Molly Fumia is scheduled to speak at the Saratoga Community Library on Friday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. Fumia is the author of Honor Thy Children: One Family's Journey to Wholeness, which chronicles the Nakatani family through the loss of all three children. The book also tells the story of son Guy Nakatani and his transition from youth to powerful AIDS educator.
