AAUW holds Tulip Time Tea

The Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women hosts Tulip Time Tea, its 10th annual English tea and silent auction, on March 28 at Sacred Heart Church, located at 13724 Saratoga Ave.

Doors open at 1 p.m. for the auction, with tea served at 2 p.m.

"The Neighborhood Kids," a touring group from the San Jose Children's Musical Theater, provides entertainment.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Georgia Travis Day Center for at-risk women and children and the San Jose Family Shelter Women's Program. Tickets are $20. For reservations, call 867-0108 or 867-0902.

Community Band plays concert

The Saratoga Community Band performs March 30 at 8 p.m. in the West Valley College theater, located at 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga.

The band, which consists of more than 90 members of all ages, is under the direction of Craig Northrup, a former Saratoga High School band director.

The program includes overtures, marches, Broadway themes, jazz and popular tunes. Admission is free, although donations are encouraged. For information, call 741-2096.

Oil Paintings in Gallery Saratoga

Throughout the month of April, Gallery Saratoga's featured exhibit consists of recent oil paintings by local artist Lillian Issacson.

A reception for the artist takes place April 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the gallery, located at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3. Works of other local artists are also on display. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 867-0458.

Residents, want any more kids?

The American Intercultural Student Exchange is looking for families to host high school students from 45 nations worldwide. The students come prescreened by principals, counselors and teachers, with their own health insurance and spending money. All students are proficient in English and stay for either a year or a semester beginning this fall.
