Man removed from office

On March 10 at 9 a.m., a West Valley College police officer encountered a man who claimed he was "the city manager for two weeks" and that people were trying to kill him, according to the college police department.

The man ran toward the city offices on Fruitvale Avenue. He darted into the post office and was spotted by police heading toward city hall.

He was found by police in the city manager's outer office, demanding to see the city manager. When police tried to coax him out of the building, he refused to leave, kicked a police officer and was then arrested.

"People come in quite often requesting information, and some don't make sense verbally," said Paula Reeve, an assistant in the city manager's office, "but this is the first time someone was physically combative and had to be removed by police."

The man, who was not a West Valley student, was arrested for battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest, said Sgt. Laura Lorman. The police officer was not injured.
