Redwood Middle School students (left to right) Jackie Gragnola, Brooke England and Gabby Lopez participate in the Saratoga Education Foundation's annual Jog-a-Thon on March 15. For two-and-a-half hours, about 900 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders either walked or ran around the soccer field. Students who completed 11 laps were exempted from having to run in PE during the last two weeks of school. The SEF, which sought to raise $45,000, encouraged sponsors to pledge either $50 per student or $5 per lap. The SEF ran this fundraiser, its last one of the year, to raise money to have a librarian, a media support technician, two science teachers, a visual arts coordinator, technology support and maintenance, and a differentiation specialist and to fund a grant to teachers to purchase classroom supplies at Redwood. Janet Brenner, co-chairwoman of the SEF Jog-a-Thon committee, said she estimated that SEF reached its goal. For information about SEF, log onto www.saratoga-sef.org.
