    Brookview split on one-story law

A recent survey of Brookview neighborhood residents found them split on the issue of a mandatory one-story overlay for the area. Saratoga Woods residents, also polled recently, strongly supported the proposed zoning change.

About two-thirds of homeowners in both neighborhoods responded to the postcard survey.

Fifty-one percent of responding Brookview residents, who live in the northeastern section of the city, favored a one-story mandate, while 46 percent did not.

Sixty-six percent of Saratoga Woods residents, also in northeast Saratoga, supported a new one-story law. Just 30 percent were against it.

The Saratoga Community Development Department is studying the one-story overlay, following numerous concerns voiced in recent years by residents about second-story additions in the two neighborhoods.

    Experts discuss transportation

A public forum sponsored by the West Valley branch of the League of Women Voters will take up the issue of transportation needs in the region.

The title of the April 6 forum is "Transportation: On Track or Derailed?"

County and Metropolitan Transportation Commissioner James Beall, and VTA planner Lisa Ives, the Mineta Transportation Institute's Trixie Johnson and CalTrain Joint Powers board member John McLemore will discuss the impact of shrinking revenues on local projects currently under construction and planned for the future.

The discussion will take place at Agilent, 5301 Stevens Creek Blvd., in Santa Clara between 9:30 a.m. and noon.

There is no charge for admission.

Call Irene Sampson at 650.493.6550 for more information.

    Rec department seeks volunteers

One volunteer will design visual displays promoting recreation programs in the Saratoga Community Center's display area. The second will write press releases promoting recreation programs. Call 408.868.1200 for an application.
