    Aegis Gallery is 'foolin' around'

The member artists at Saratoga's Aegis Gallery of Fine Art have just completed installing a group show, called "Foolin' Around," which runs through April 29. With a title inspired by the first of April, the show is billed as featuring "jesters, fools and playful things" and "sensual creations with an imaginative twist." Mediums used include paintings, collages, photography, ceramics, paper sculpture, masks and blown and fused art glass.

Aegis Gallery is at 14531 Big Basin Way, unit 2, in the Saratoga Village. For gallery hours, call 408.867.0171 or visit www.aegisgallery.com on the Internet.

A day to explore at Bodega Bay

The Saratoga Recreation Department is taking reservations for an April 11 day trip to the Bodega Bay headlands, part of the department's "Consummate Coast" trip series.

Joining the tour is local naturalist Greg Meyer, who will answer questions about the area. A hosted lunch with choice of entrees follows. The last stop is a tour of the Potter Schoolhouse, built in 1873 and made famous in the Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds.

The trip is open to adults of all ages. Early reservations are recommended, as are good walking shoes. The cost is $69 per person. For more information, call 408.868.1248 or 408.868.1249.

    Crabtree covers adventure racing

Among the spring programs and workshops it offers to the community, REI Saratoga has invited Kristen Crabtree of Playscriptions to give a slide presentation titled "Adventure Racing 101" on April 9 at 7 p.m.

Crabtree will give an introduction to the sport of adventure racing, in which teams of three or four compete on an off-road course using a variety of skills, including trail running, hiking, mountain biking, kayaking and swimming. She will also give tips on how to find the right team and race, and how to prepare for the mental and physical challenges of competing.

The event is free and open to people of all ages. REI is in the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center. For more information, call 408.871.8765.
