Advice on how to look better and be stylish

By Sue Fagalde Lick

Lyndy Pisano Janes and Sue Fox, both professional models, have seen a desire among Saratogans of all ages to look better and learn how to present a stylish, professional image. To that end, they are opening The Workshoppe at 14419 Big Basin Way. They hope to finish remodeling the shop in time to open in April.

The Workshoppe will be a combination of three businesses. Fox and Janes will continue the ongoing image-consulting businesses they previously ran from their homes. Services will include makeup application, consultations on hair and wardrobe, fragrance blending and aromatherapy.

They also plan to sell a line of bath products from the suppliers of the former Body Chemistry shop in Los Gatos, along with fragrances, cosmetics and aromatherapy oils.

They are most excited about their school of etiquette and grooming, which will be offered at first for preteens and teens and eventually expanded to adult clients. They envision etiquette camps and special workshops on how to behave in various situations, such as dating, on the telephone, dining, and meeting strangers. Workshops are also planned in grooming, skin care, wardrobe, makeup, body image, aromatherapy and fragrance blending.

The etiquette school will be based on the work of the Washington School of Protocol's course in social and communication skills, which they are adapting for Saratoga youth. Many businesses today extend into other countries, and Americans particularly need tutoring in how to behave in the international arena, Janes says.

Experts from a variety of areas will be invited to teach various aspects of behavior and grooming, Fox and Janes say. They also will offer expertise from their own experience. Janes attended the Lucy Clayton school in England and has worked as a model and teacher of grooming and etiquette for the past 25 years. Fox is also a model, but she has also gained experience in the corporate world working in marketing communications for Apple Computer. Both women have recently been cover models for Eternelle Magazine, published in Los Altos.

At the Workshoppe, Janes will do most of the teaching, while Fox will handle the business end.

Fox and Janes are both single moms. Fox, whose two sons are grown, grew up in Saratoga and went to Saratoga High School. Janes, a native of London, has lived in this area since 1982. She has two children attending Saratoga schools.
