    Warriors knock off Bells

Panthers outslug Silver Creek for league win

It may have been just a nonleague game buried deep in the league schedule for the Westmont baseball team.

But that didn't matter much to the Warriors last weekend. Because they knocked off Bellarmine, and any win over the Bells in baseball is a big one.

The Warriors scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to pull out a thrilling 8-7 win over the Bells on Saturday.

Bill Stouffer and Colin McAvoy each blasted home runs to lead the Warriors to the exciting win that pushed their season record to 8-5.

Chris Snyder had two hits for Westmont, and Ben Peterson doubled home a couple of runs. Stouffer knocked in three runs in the win.

Junior right-hander Reed Dickert came on in relief to pick up the mound win, running his record to 3-0.

The win was the third of the week for the Warriors, who had won twice in the Mount Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League prior to beating the Bells. Westmont handled Leland 5-1 and Del Mar 10-2 to improve to 4-2 in division play.

Stouffer had homered and knocked in two runs in the win over the Chargers to open the week. Mike Gorski doubled home a pair of runs for the Warriors, and Mike Haynes was the winning pitcher, pushing his season mark to 2-3.

Stouffer came back to toss the Warriors to the 10-2 win over the Dons later in the week. Snyder and Gorski each had two hits to knock in two runs apiece in the win. Jacob Goytia tripled home a pair of runs and Travis Cheney ripped a double for Westmont.

Westmont will get back to league play this week. After visiting Santa Teresa on Monday, the Warriors will take on Valley Christian on March 28, 3:30 p.m., at PAL Stadium and will host Leigh on March 30, 3:30 p.m.

    Panthers top SC

Prospect rallied for six runs in the second inning and picked up two each in the third, fourth and sixth to pull out a 13-11 win over Silver Creek last week in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.

Brent Maselli doubled and singled twice to push home a couple of runs to lead the Panthers to the victory. Myke Gordon ripped a double and a single to drive in three runs and J.D. Mazzuca doubled and tripled to knock in a pair.

Curtis Wills singled and tripled and Kevin McPeck singled and doubled for the Panthers. Nick O'Hara tripled in the win.

Steven Vidal was the winning pitcher for Prospect and Tony Crocker came on to pick up the save.

The win was sandwiched between a couple of Prospect losses to the co-division leaders. Prospect lost 16-9 to Pioneer to open the week, then wrapped things up with a tight 6-4 loss to Willow Glen.

Wills singled, doubled and tripled to knock in three runs, but the Panthers lost to the Mustangs on Monday. Maselli had two hits and McPeck and Andrew Meade each doubled. Mazzuca and O'Hara added singles for the Panthers.

Prospect, 2-4 in the division and 3-7 for the year, played Willow Glen tough on Friday before losing 6-4.

The Rams took their lead into the seventh, but Wills doubled and raced to third on a single by Ivan McVay to put runners on the corners. But Willow Glen ace Matt Durkin worked out the jam the save the game for the Rams.

    Falcons fall

It was a tough week for the Saratoga baseball team. The Falcons, who entered the week with a solid 3-2 record in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, lost twice, and neither game was close.

The Falcons were pounded 10-0 but Cupertino to open the week.
