High school district trustee earns Masters Certificate
Phil Nielsen, a trustee of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District, has received a master's in governance certificate from the California School Boards' Association. Nielsen completed 56 hours of intensive training on the role of the governance team in student learning and achievement, school finance and facilities, human resources, collective bargaining, community leadership and setting direction and policy.
Nielsen, a retired IBM manager who has lived in Los Gatos for 16 years, is a member of the county committee on school district organization and the Metropolitan Education District/Central County Occupational Center board of trustees. He has also served on the school site council for Los Gatos High School and led the district's 1998 Measure B facilities bond campaign.
