The city council last week officially designated April 6, 2001, Tartan Day in Saratoga. The day recognizes Scottish history and culture, and the contributions Scottish Americans have made in the United States.
April 6 is the day the Scots declared independence from England in 1320, with the Declaration of Arbroath.
Local Scots will celebrate on April 6, with gathering outside the Santa Clara County Offices in San Jose, on the corner of First and Hedding streets. For more information, contact Andrew McFarlin with the South Bay Scottish Society at 408.554.9711.
