'Newsweek' ranks SHS number 59 in nation

SHS was ranked 59 out of 418 in Newsweek's list of top ranked United States high schools, featured in the March 13 issue. Rankings were based on the ratio of Advanced Placement tests given in 1999, and divided by the number of graduating seniors. Saratoga was ranked 13 in the same list a few years ago, according to Principal Kevin Skelly, who sees flaws in the ratio used to create the list.

"A lot of schools give more AP tests than there are qualified students to take them," he said.
