City drafts plan to deal with Y2K bug

SUSD delays decision on school renovation

    Redwood School hearing April 8

The Saratoga Union School District will hold a special meeting on April 8 at 7:30 p.m., in the Redwood Middle School Library to vote on Redwood Middle School's draft Environmental Impact Report Negative Declaration.

Superintendent Mary Gardner said the district has been working with the city to rectify any issues regarding the CEQA report.

At the April 8 meeting, the SUSD board will also deliberate and vote on the Saratoga School draft EIR (see story this page).

The city is stuck in high-tech dark ages

Not one to be left behind by that local technological revolution, the city of Saratoga has made it a priority to give its employees email accounts, which would also allow residents to email city officials.

Also, it is trying to figure out the logistics of posting a web page, so Internet users can access city information, meeting agendas and minutes at any time. As yet, no official city information can be accessed by way of the web.

So far, officials have been trying to find a suitable Internet service provider, or ISP, at a decent cost. It's also considering the available technology and how to get a system up and running.

Cost is another reason for the delay, and finding staff members with time to create and maintain it.

As a result, the city will likely be reaching out to residents and/or West Valley College students for volunteers to help get the page online.

    Register the kids for kindergarten

Kindergarten registration packets will be available beginning April 1 in the Saratoga Union School District office at 20460 Forrest Hills Drive.

Parents must return completed packets to the District office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m., to 4:30 p.m. A birth certificate, up-to-date immunization records signed by a doctor and proof of residency is required before a child can be enrolled in the district.

The SUSD has an open enrollment policy that allows residents to request the school site of their choice, provided the space is available. Those with siblings already in the district are urged to register before June 1.
