    Waves, wind and water appear at Gallery Saratoga

    Gallery Saratoga features the group show Waves, Wind and Water April 1-30, The gallery's more than 20 member artists exhibit new works in a variety of styles and mediums, including paintings, photography, enamels, wood turnings, pottery, sculpture and silks.

    Gallery Saratoga is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 867-0458.

    Villa Montalvo hosts Olympiad
    of the Arts

    The Gallery at Montalvo, 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga, is again hosting the photographic component of the Olympiad of the Arts, an annual creative competition for middle school, high school and community college students throughout Santa Clara County. The Olympiad is organized by the West Valley/Mission College Foundation.

    Among the juried entries in the exhibition are a first and second place winner, an honorable mention and the recipient of the Montalvo Award of Merit in Photography. An artists' reception takes place April 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. Juror Max Crumley and other members of the West Valley photography department will attend. The exhibit runs through May 2. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

    Bay Area painter offers demo at local club meeting

    The Saratoga Contemporary Artists invites anyone interested in art to attend its April 8 meeting, which takes place at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Community Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. Gerald Boyd, a member of the Fremont Art Association and trustee of the Society for Western Artists, will demonstrate how to paint a portrait in oil. Examples of his commercial art have appeared along Bay Area freeways in the form of 30-foot billboards with huge portrait heads, which Boyd calls "People Pictures."

    The SCA is a community organization that promotes the arts and lets artists of different levels and styles socialize, network, review each others' works and occasionally paint together. For more information, call 354-9046 or (530) 583-5901.
