Classes invite seniors to move body or brush

There's something for all tastes--be it a blending of East and West or strictly country & western--in the April offerings for seniors through the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation.

Beginning April 16 and continuing through June 4, John Wells offers Tai Ji Dance Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The class teaches students how to use warm-up and rhythmic movements to create lightness and freedom in the body while incorporating the graceful steps of tai ji. Fee for the eight-week class is $39.

Beginning April 14 and continuing on Tuesdays through May 19, seniors can learn to increase their stamina while learning country & western line dancing.

A Beginner's Basics class for those with little or no experience is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., while more experienced line dancers can sign up for the Beginning I class from 10 to 11:15 a.m.

Joanne Arrouzet, who teaches throughout the South Bay, is the instructor. Class fee for the six-week session is $15.

For those more attuned to things visual than kinetic, an eight-week watercolor course is being offered Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon, beginning April 16.

Students will learn the basic techniques of watercolor painting in a supportive atmosphere. Instructor Jean Tannhauser welcomes students at all levels. Fee is $59.
