Cristina Curcelli and her father, Felice, work on solving problems at Argonaut Elementary School's annual Math Fun Day. Students in grades K through 2 and their parents drew pictures to illustrate word problems; made pictures with tangrams; and played a game called 'Guess My Number.' Third- through fifth-graders and their parents rolled dice to learn about probability, identified patterns in sets of numbers and explored different ways to reach the number 24 when given sets of single-digit numbers. Principal Sue Brooks says she proposed the idea of Math Fun Day to the school's Parent-Teacher Association about five years ago, when a similar program run by another organization became overcrowded.
