Chamber cancels Citizen of the Year
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel its annual Citizen of the Year Award, as it prepares to renegotiate its contract with the city early next month.
Chamber Executive Director Kristin Davis said the organization was concentrating most of its energy on resolving the contract issues and did not have to time to screen candidates and select a citizen of the year this spring.
Earlier this year, the city discussed a possible termination of its annual payment to the Chamber for visitor and referral services in Saratoga, before the two sides agreed to work for a new contract by the Chamber's annual session with the council in early May.
Hakone establishes emeritus board
The Hakone Foundation has established a board of former foundation leaders that will assist the current board with management of the traditional Japanese gardens.
Helen Metcalf, a former Montalvo trustee, will serve as the co-chair of the emeritus board.
A statement from the foundation said the board would allow Hakone's current leadership "to benefit from the wisdom and experience of past foundation leaders."
Also serving on the newly formed board will be former trustees Marge Bunyard, Kay Duffy, Cathy Foscato, Donna Harris and John Tauchi.
Saratoga needs trails advisors
The city parks commission's subcommittee on trails is looking for new citizen members to represent different user groups in the city.
Park commissioners would like members of the equestrian, hiking and biking communities to become active participants in the trails group.
Serving on the trail subcommittee will require attending monthly meetings of about an hour in length. For more information, contact City Clerk Cathleen Boyer at 408.868.1269.
Summer camp needs volunteer
The city is looking for a volunteer to help with its recreation camps this summer, beginning June 17. Contact Beverly Tucker in the recreation department at 408.868.1249.
