League plans tour of waste facilities
The Los Gatos, Saratoga, Monte Sereno League of Women Voters invites the public to attend a "go-see" tour of waste management services in the area on Thursday, April 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A Santa Clara County Transit bus will leave from the Saratoga City Hall parking lot, 19655 Allendale Ave., for a visit to the Green Valley maintenance and processing facility, the San Jose Green Team Recycling facility and the Guadalupe Landfill, under the guidance of Phil Couchée, operations manager for Green Valley Disposal.
A barbecue "Lunch at the Dump" will conclude the tour, which costs $5. A check can be mailed to League of Women Voters, P.O. Box 2865, Saratoga, 95070 by April 9. For more information, call 867-VOTE.
Book auction benefits library
A collection of vintage books is being offered at auction by the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries. The oldest book was published in 1794, with many others from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Categories include art and architecture, children's books and history including Americana, California material, military, travel and world history. Literature, signed editions, special press and illustrated books round out the selection of 200 books.
Books are available for preview and silent bids through April 6 at the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries' Book-Go-Round,14410 Oak Street. The shop is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is closed Sunday, April 7.
The live bidding takes place Thursday, April 11, at 7 p.m. at the book-go-round on Oak Street. Proceeds benefit the Saratoga Community Library. For more information call the Friends at 867-5552.
Children's Theatre stages Charlotte's Web
The Saratoga Children's Musical Theatre will present its adaptation of E. B. White's classic children's story, Charlotte's Web, April 13 through 20. Sixty-five children will tell the story of hope and friendship between a unique pig and a determined spider.
Performances will be in the round at the Saratoga Community Center, 13777 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga, on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 14, at 1 p.m.; Friday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 20, at 4 and 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited and there are no advance sales.
Tickets are $6.50 seniors/students; $8 general admission. Doors open one hour before each show. For information, call the Saratoga Recreation Department, 867-3438
