    Adult Sports

The Saratoga Recreation Department is offering programs for adult basketball and softball.

There are openings for four more teams in the men's 35-and-over spring basketball league. Games are played Saturday mornings at West Valley Community College, and league play begins April 8. The registration fee is $535 per team, and all players must have been born prior to April 8, 1965.

The rec department also offers drop-in basketball for players 40 and over each Tuesday, 7-9 p.m., at Saratoga High. The cost is $3 per night or $27 for 10 nights. Proof of age is required.

Registration is also under way for the spring/summer softball season. Men's D teams play Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning April 17, and coed teams play Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginnings April 25. Games are played at El Quito Park in Saratoga.

The fee is $574 for the 14-week men's season and $265 for the 7-week coed season.

For more information on any of the rec department programs, call 408.868.1234.

    Cilker a winner

The results of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Great Race published in March included an incorrect division winner. It was Bill Cilker of Los Gatos who finished first in the men's 80-95 age group. Cilker's winning time was 1:01:52.

    Youth Football

Signups for the 2000 Los Gatos Pop Warner football season are now being accepted.

Pop Warner offers programs for boys and girls ages 7-15 from Los Gatos and Saratoga. Football teams are grouped according to weight and age, and cheer squads are grouped by age.

The organization will add a new instructional, non-competitive entry-level division this season for boys ages 7-9 weighing between 45 and 85 pounds.

Practice for all teams begins in August.

For more information, check the Los Gatos Pop Warner website at www.lgpw.com or call the hotline at 408.920.2204.
