Robbery suspect lets the cops know that he's home

    By Michelle Alaimo

The report of a stolen car made to the Sheriff's Westside substation, was just the cue police needed to go after a suspect they believed had led them on a high-speed chace through Saratoga that ended in a crash earlier in the evening.

According to Sgt. Ted Atlas, Martin Neuhierl, 36, of San Jose, climbed onto the roof near his ex-girlfriend's home on Big Basin Way on April 1. Neuhierl was reportedly looking in his ex-girlfriend's bedroom window at approximately 2:10 a.m., and called out her name. When she told him to leave and he refused, she called 911.

When deputies responded, Atlas said Neuhierl jumped into his car and led deputies on a high-speed chase through Saratoga on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. As he neared a residential area on Carniel Avenue, Atlas said Neuhierl crashed his car into a wall and then fled by foot into a nearby neighborhood.

Deputies conducted a canine search of the area but did not find Neuhierl. Atlas said the deputes then located Neuhierl's car registration and went to his home but he was not there.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Atlas said the Westside substation received a call from Neuhierl reporting his car stolen. Deputies went to his home and arrested him for hit and run, fleeing from a peace officer, and prowling. Neuhierl was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail and released on bail with an arraignment date set for the end of the month.
