Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsWellness workshop focuses on family The Teen Counseling Center of the West Valley, which serves youth in both Saratoga and Los Gatos, sponsors a family wellness workshop on five consecutive Tuesdays, beginning April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center, located at 208 E. Main St. in downtown Los Gatos. The workshop includes tools for healthy family management; steps to resolve conflict and boost self-confidence; lifelong skills for supporting and empowering families; and team-building techniques. There is a special section for children and teenagers on clarifying their values and negotiating with parents. Cost is $60 per family. Child care is available. Friends of library hold used book sale The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries' semiannual paperback book sale takes place April 15-19 in the Community Room of the Saratoga Community Library, located at 13650 Saratoga Ave. Paperback books on all topics, as well as used records, are priced at four for $1. Sale times vary depending on the day. On April 16, the FSL holds its semiannual Rare and Collectible Book Auction at 7 p.m., also in the library's Community Room. Books to be auctioned can be previewed through April 12 at Book-Go-Round, located at the corner of Oak Street and Saratoga-Los Gatos Road. Proceeds from both events benefit the Saratoga Community Library. For more information, call 867-5552. Lupus Foundation seeks volunteers The Bay Area Lupus Foundation is now accepting nominations for people interested in serving on its board of directors. The new positions open this July and usually last for two years. Some backgrounds BALF seeks in board members are corporate networking, high-level corporate management, marketing/advertising, accounting/finance, health care, fund-raising and computer operations. BALF is also recruiting members for its Resource Development Advisory Council, which refines fundraising methods, participates in long-range planning and works with the community.
