Saso Herb Gardens offers lectures, class
Louis Saso of Saso Herb Gardens will give a lecture tour on Sunday, April 13, at 10:30 a.m., explaining the culture and use of culinary and medicinal herbs growing in his one-acre herb garden at 14625 Fruitvale Ave. Fresh herbal tea will be served. Admission is free, and reservations are not required.
Other events include a class on how to plant an herb garden on Saturday, April 19, from 930 a.m. to 3 p.m.Saso will teach this workshop that covers soil preparation, composting, propagation, design and harvesting. Fee is $45.
On Sunday, April 27, Marshal and Josie Riley, licensed acupuncturists, will talk about their specialty at 1 p.m. at the herb gardens. Admission is free. For reservations and information, call 867-0307.
Foothill Men stage annual Plant Sale
The Foothill Men's Garden Club will stage its annual Plant Sale April 18-19. The sale, which benefits local public gardens and scholarships for horticulture students, will be held at the Rancho Shopping Center in Los Altos. This year marks the 32nd that the Saratoga group has held its sale.
"Everything we offer for sale we grow in our own backyard," says club president Philip Bush. He said there will be more than 500 plants on sale.
AAUW stages potluck
American Association of University Women (AAUW), Los Gatos-Saratoga branch, holds its annual Education Foundation meeting and potluck luncheon on Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 14102 Saratoga Ave.
Adele F. Negro, an AAUW grant recipient who is currently enrolled at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, will discuss, "Finding One's Voice in the Worlds of Others."
Dr. Marchelle Fox, president of West Valley College, will also speak, and the 1997 AAUW scholarship recipient from West Valley College will be introduced. For details and reservations, call 354-6034.
Senior Center sets Tea Dance
The Saratoga Senior Center will stage a Tea Dance on Sunday, April 27, from 3 to 5 p.m. Dance music will be provided by Leon & Lindy on a computertized keyboard. There will be a special tribute to Maurice Cazel, a member of the center who passed away last year. Refreshments will be served, and the event is open to members of the community.
