Saratoga seeks computer donations

Saratoga is calling all corporate leaders. The city is seeking corporate donations of computer hardware and services to help implement its technology plan and upgrade its outdated computer system. Items needed for the project include Ether Net switch routers, a Pentium PRO file server, and Microsoft NT server software.

Already one company has stepped up to the plate: Sprint Spectrum L.P. will provide the city with underground conduits worth about $15,000. City officials say they hope other corporate residents will follow the lead.

For more information, call Thomas Fil at 868-1200 by April 11. Computer materials donated to the city are tax-deductible.

New Cupertino school chief named

Dr. William Bragg of Oceanside has been named superintendent of Cupertino Union School District, succeeding Patricia Lamson, who is retiring after 7 years at the helm of the 15,000-student district.

Bragg is currently deputy superintendent for instruction in the Oceanside Unified School District, a K-12 district of 20,000 students in San Diego County. He will join the Cupertino Union School District on April 7. The district covers a portion of Saratoga.

Free compost classes offered

The qualities of compost are many, according to master composter Ken Kelly: improved plant growth, better water use, superior soil and disease prevention.

But how to go about turning household scraps into compost?

Step-by-step instructions will be offered in two free home composting workshops will be offered by Santa Clara County master composters on May 10 and August 9 at the Saratoga Community Center.

Fellowships are offered

Assemblymember Jim Cunneen anounces that applications are open for the 1997-98 Judicial Administration Fellowship program. The 11-month fellowship for college graduates gives the opportunity to become full-time judicial and court administrators. Fellows can earn 12 graduate units in public administration and they are paid a monthly stipend of $1,707, plus health benefits. Deadline for submitting applications is May 2, to Cuneen's office, 901 Campisi Way, Suite 300, Campbell.
