Sheriff's Report
Grand Theft--April 1, 7:30 p.m. on Scully Road. The unknown suspect(s) took various sterling silver utensils from the victim's china cabinet. The guilty party took two serving spoons, one butter knife, one tablespoon, one teaspoon, one salad spoon and one cold meat fork. The victim estimated the total value of the items to be $700. The victim, who only used the silverware during important occasions, wanted the report for insurance purposes.
Petty Theft (U.S. Mail), Forgery--April 1, 6:15 p.m. on Baylor Avenue. Someone stole the victims' outgoing mail, which included four checks they had issued to pay bills, from their mailbox in front of their residence on March 22. The suspect erased the victims' signatures, the name of the payee and the amount information on one check and forged it to try to buy goods at Nob Hill Foods in Milpitas. When the suspect couldn't provide the proper identification for the check, he left the store. However, he was successful in using two of the other checks at other stores. The suspect remains at large.
Attempted Burglary--March 31, 2:35 p.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. The officer was dispatched to a drugstore to investigate an attempted burglary. The reporting party showed the officer surveillance tapes that showed one suspect inside the store while another suspect waited outside the entrance door near a car. The suspect inside the store took the most valuable liquor and hid it in a shopping basket. When an employee approached the suspect, the person dropped the basket and fled the store.
Drunk in Public--March 30, 8:36 p.m. on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. The officer initiated a stop in Saratoga and stopped the suspects' car on Via Vico and De Anza Boulevard in San Jose. The officer arrested the driver for having a blood alcohol level of at least .08 percent and found that the passenger also seemed drunk. The passenger had an unsteady gate and bloodshot, glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol and had urinated in his pants. The officer judged that he was unable to care for himself. Another officer transported the passenger to the sobering station, where he was detained.
Violating Tree Regulations--March 28, 4:30 p.m. on Oak Place. The officer cited a resident for illegal tree removal.
