COMMUNITY BRIEFS

YMCA celebrates healthy kids

The YMCA of Santa Clara County will celebrate Healthy Kids Day on April 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Each YMCA will offer a wide variety of activities for children and adults that encourage healthy eating and physical fitness. Activities at the Southwest YMCA, located at 13500 Quito Road in Saratoga, will include family and youth aerobics, basketball shoots, an obstacle course in the Kids' Gym, and healthy snacks.

"Statistically, research shows that as years go by, children get less active," said Bernice Alaniz, the Y's director of marketing and membership. "This is an opportunity for children and families to find out about healthy alternatives in areas such as nutrition and exercise."

For more information, call the Southwest YMCA at 370-1877.

Bargain paperbacks at library book sale

Friends of the Saratoga Libraries will hold a paperback book sale starting Wednesday at 6 p.m. and continuing through the weekend. Initially, the books will be priced at four for $1, but when the sale ends Sunday, prices drop to $2 a bag.

Live bidding for the Auction of Special Books begins Thursday at 7 p.m. Both events take place at and benefit the Saratoga Community Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. For more information, call the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries at 867-5552 or the Community Library, 867-6126.
