Let's play all together now

By Tim Persyn

Imagine the sound of 700 organists playing the same piece at the same time.

That's precisely what will happen at 3 p.m. Pacific time on April 14 as organists at 230 locations around the country celebrate the 100th anniversary of the the American Guild of Organists by simultaneously playing Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga was selected as the local site for the recital. The church has the largest pipe organ in Santa Clara County.

Local organist Rev. Kristin Sundquist of St. Andrew's was selected by the San Jose chapter of the guild to perform in Saratoga.

"I felt very honored to be one of the performers," Sundquist said. "I know some of the other people who will be doing it."

Admission is free and Sundquist's performance will be followed by four other organists performing pieces.
