Saratoga couldn't win a relay when the Falcons took on Monta Vista in a boys' track and field meet last week.
Oh, well!
The Falcons really didn't care much. After all, they were dominating things on the track and in the field on the way to a 78-48 win over the Matadors.
Saratoga won all but two of the 13 individual events contested to claim the team win, pushing its record to 4-2 in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
Hank Nothhaft led the Falcons to the victory with wins in two events. Nothhaft romped to a win in the 800 meters in 2:08.9 and added a first in the 1,600 meters in 4:47.9.
Andrew Copeland joined Nothhaft as a distance winner in the meet, taking the 3,200 meters in 10:43.
Brian Carroll sprinted to a win in the 100 meters in 11.2 and Alex Lux took the 400 in 53.7. Michael Hwang covered the 110 high hurdles in 16.6 for a Saratoga victory.
The Falcons swept the five events in the field with Daryl DeKeczer, Mark Marshall, Tony Hsu, David Yu and Gabe Calebotta each claiming victories.
DeKeczer heaved the shot put 36-4 1/2 for a win, and Marshall tossed the discus 108-10 for a Saratoga first.
Hsu flew 19-5 for first in the long jump, Yu went 40-0 for a win in the triple jump and Calebotta topped the high jump bar at 6-0 for a first-place finish.
The Saratoga girls weren't quite as successful, though.
The Falcons ran into unbeaten Monta Vista and dropped a 79-48 decision. The Matadors improved to 5-0 in the division with the win and Saratoga slipped to 4-2 with the loss.
Senior Maggie Ricketts was the lone Saratoga winner on the track. Ricketts raced to a first in the 3,200 meters in 12:47.
Jill Moon soared 32-2 for a first in the triple jump and Sue Pan muscled the shot put 26-2 1/2 for another Falcons win.
Saratoga is off for spring break this week, but will send teams to a pair of invitationals this weekend. The Falcons will compete in the King City Invitational on April 13 and will send qualifiers to the CCS Frosh-Soph Top Eight meet at Los Gatos on April 12.
