The Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women holds its 13th annual English Tea and Silent Auction on April 21, inside Geary Hall at Sacred Heart Church, 13724 Saratoga Ave. in Saratoga.

The event begins at 12:45 p.m. for viewing items for sale in the silent auction. Tea, which includes homemade tea sandwiches and desserts, will be served at 2 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Georgia Travis Day Center in San Jose and other programs for homeless women and children in the community.

Annual run is fundraiser for lupus patients

The Lupus Foundation of Northern California, also known as the Bay Area Lupus Foundation, invites all Bay Area residents to its seventh annual Breakfast 5K Run/Walk on April 29, at West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave. in Saratoga.

The event, which begins at 8 a.m., features a paved, rolling tour of the wooded campus and is certified by USA Track & Field, the governing body for amateur track & field events, cross-country running, long-distance running and racewalking.

Runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels are welcome. Entry fees are $20 per person before April 20, and $25 thereafter. Group discounts are available. Fees include a T-shirt, goodie bag containing gift certificates and breakfast of strawberry shortcake and beverages. Participants also have the opportunity to compete for more than $16,000 in prizes.

Participants are encouraged to ask family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers to sponsor them in their run or walk; 78 percent of this money goes directly to BALF programs and services. For each $50 in sponsorships, participants earn an entry into a prize drawing at the event's conclusion.

Founded in 1987, BALF is a nonprofit health organization that provides a wide range of services to lupus patients, their families, health professionals and the general public. For more information, call 408.954.8600, or visit www.balf.org on the Internet.
