More than 40 employers have already committed to joining West Valley College's April 26 job fair. The college hopes to link Santa Clara Valley employers with students entering the workplace.
Among the employers already scheduled to attend are the California Highway Patrol, Santa Clara County, Macys, Pacific Bell, State Farm, United Airlines, JDR Microdevices, Xerox and a number of West Valley cities.
The job fair is open to the public and will be held in the Student Center on the West Valley College campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, call 408.867.2200 ext. 3474.
Volunteers needed for city committees
There are three at-large positions on the library expansion committee that the City Council is seeking to fill. The terms will last until the Saratoga Community Library's expansion and renovation is complete. The application deadline is set for April 21, at 5 p.m. and the city will hold interviews on April 25.
Also, due to finance commissioner Gary Wolf's resignation, there is a vacancy on the commission for a term through October 1, 2001. The application deadline is May 12, at 5 p.m.
Any resident of Saratoga who is 18 or older may apply and obtain applications from Interim City Clerk, Carol Butler at City Hall at 13777 Fruitvale Avenue. For more information, call 408.868.1269.
Mayor Bogosian to take to the streets
Hundreds of mayors across the country, including Saratoga's Stan Bogosian, will take part in the "Millennium Mayorthon," a coast-to-coast relay race to benefit organ and tissue donation.
San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown will kick off the event on April 16. The mayors from Daly City to Los Gatos will participate in the first leg of the relay. The Mayorthon will hit Saratoga's City Hall on April 19, at 3 p.m., where Bogosian will have the choice of running, walking, biking or simply signing a pledge in support of organ and tissue donation.
The event is sponsored by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the American Red Cross. The entire race will conclude in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 2.
