Practicing for the Real Thing
A make-believe earthquake rocked Saratoga School students at the Strawberry Park campus on the morning of April 6, the anniversary of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Above, Michele Brading (right) assists Eric Gast, 8, who pretends to have a broken leg. The drill gave faculty, staff and students an opportunity to test their emergency preparedness and to practice in case the real thing happens. Several staff and students were identified as having been injured in the quake, and the fire and paramedics on scene responded to them. Police, city staff, parent volunteers and ham radio operators were also on site. Students took cover under their desks for one minute, then filed out of their classrooms to a designated area where the administration made sure every student was present and accounted before sending them back to class.
