    Creek settlement can proceed

Saratoga Mayor Jim Shaw said April 7 that the major stumbling block to settling the Saratoga Creek case has finally been overcome.

He announced at the City Council meeting that the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) has given the go-ahead to the city to sign the settlement agreement it said it had reached on the case in late February.

The city was waiting for ABAG to double check its insurance policy carried by the city to make sure any potential costs to the city would be covered.

Now that it has, Shaw said, the city will sign the settlement agreement and will seek approval from the plaintiff's legal counsel.

When the plaintiffs sign and the papers are filed in court, Shaw said, the city will release a statement outlining the terms of the agreement. He said they still will not be made public until the entire settlement is official.

The city was sued by Friends of the Santa Clara County Creeks and BayKeepers more than four years ago, alleging it violated clean water laws for heightened bacteria levels in the Saratoga Creek.

    League looks at Medicare issues

The public is invited to a discussion on the fate of Medicare and other health insurance issues at the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno-Saratoga League of Women Voters general meeting, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Senior Center, 19655 Allendale Ave., Saratoga.

    SUSD postpones decision again

The Saratoga Union School District has once again postponed its decision on the proposed negative declaration at Saratoga Elementary School and Redwood Middle School until April 22.

Superintendent Mary Gardner said the postponement is because the SUSD was not able to circulate new reports regarding the initial studies in time for the Saratoga City Council meeting held on April 7.

The SUSD will hold a special meeting to make a final decision on the matter on Thursday, April 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Redwood Middle School Library.

The district has received numerous letters about Saratoga School, but none about the work to be done at Redwood.
