Panthers dominate all-leagueSaratoga's Tomine, Jones earn top spotsBy Dick Sparrer To say that the Prospect boys' soccer team came close to winning a Central Coast Section championship this past winter would be an understatement--the Panthers came within a heartbeat! Prospect lost 1-0 in double-overtime to Leland in the Central Coast Section Division I title game, missing that elusive section championship by just a single goal. Still, despite the loss, it was quite a year for the Panthers, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Josh Anderson, Tony Chang and Josh Reed. The three were leaders all season for the Panthers, so it was no surprise to see them pick up some postseason honors for their efforts. Chang, a senior forward, Anderson, a senior midfielder, and Reed, a senior defender, were all named to the all-league first team in the rugged Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League. Chang was also selected the co-most valuable forward in the division. Anderson went on to claim a spot on the all-CCS first team, and Chang was picked to the all-CCS second team. Saratoga's Takeo Tomine and Elliott Jones joined Anderson and Chang on that all-CCS squad. Tomine and Jones, a couple of senior midfielders, were tabbed to the all-CCS honorable mention list. Tomine also won top honors in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League. The talented senior was named the co-most valuable offensive player in the division. Jake Bird of Westmont was named an all-league first-team player in the West Valley Division of the BVAL. In girls' soccer, Brianna Wilson of Saratoga was selected as the co-sophomore of the year in the rugged De Anza Division of the SCVAL. She was joined on the all-league squad by senior defender Ashley Gaynor, junior defender Meghan Miyamoto and freshman forward Jenni Cohen of Saratoga. Lindsay Spanek of Prospect was named the most valuable player in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL after a sensational senior season for the Panthers. Spanek was joined on the all-league squad by teammates Ashley Bulik, Nicole Kiyama, Trisha Pesiri and Mariko Yoshihara. Laura Gurney of Westmont also earned a place on the all-league first team in the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL.
