Chen wins grand championship

Arthur Chen, a freshman at Saratoga High School, won the grand championship by domination at the USA WKF (wushu-kungfu) Western Regional Chinese Martial Arts Championships at UC-Berkeley on April 4.

Men's Basketball

The Saratoga Recreation Department is now accepting team registrations for the upcoming spring 35-plus men's basketball league. Games are played Saturday mornings at Saratoga High School, and the season begins April 25. For a manager's packet, call 868-1248.

Soccer Tryouts

The West Valley Soccer League will hold boys' under-12 Class III tryouts on April 19, 2:30-4:30 p.m., at Campbell Christian School. For information, call Hall at 267-2425.

Saratoga AYSO

Saratoga AYSO is looking for volunteers to participate in the fall youth soccer season.

Advanced registration for board members, division managers, coaches, assistant coaches and referees will be held April 25, and registration for all volunteers and sponsors will be held May 2 and 16. All registrations run from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Argonaut School, 20460 Shadow Mountain Drive.

Basketball Camps

A series of girls' basketball camps will be held at Santa Clara University this summer. Sessions start June 6 through July 31. For information, call Shaunice Warr at 554-4567.

Coaches Needed

Los Gatos is looking for a number of coaches for the 1998-99 school year. The Wildcats need coaches for wrestling, cross country, track, girls' water polo and swimming. Anyone qualified and interested should call Los Gatos Athletic Director Butch Cattolico at 354-2730.

World Title Fight

IBF Featherweight World Champion Hector Lizarraga of San Jose will take on challenger Manuel Medina in the first ever world championship fight to be contested at the San Jose Arena.

The Garden City Boxing Club card, set for April 24, will include three championship fights and will also feature WBU Junior Featherweight Champion Carlos Navarro.
