The Lynbrook girls' softball team was cruising right along through the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League--that is, until the Vikings ran into Palo Alto last week.
The Vikings were 4-0 in division play before dropping a 4-3 heartbreaker to Paly.
Lynbrook led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the first and second, but Paly tied it with two in the third. It remained tied until the Vikings scored in the top of the seventh, only to see Palo Alto come up with two in the home half of the inning.
Alice Liu led the Vikes with three hits and Monica Boss slapped a pair.
The loss left the Vikings 4-1 in the division and 14-7 for the year.
Lynbrook had opened the week with a rousing 10-4 win over Milpitas.
Angela Locke singled and tripled to drive home two runs, and Liu and Boss added two hits apiece. Jodi Melanson, Danielle Simione and Shelly Prevo drove home two runs each in the win.
Kendra Baldwin was the winning pitcher for the Vikings, running her season record to 8-3.
The Vikings were coming off of a lopsided 30-1 victory over Saratoga. Melanson was the winning pitcher, pushing her record to 6-3, and she also drove in five runs to help her cause.
Boss knocked in six runs with a home run and three singles, and Liu had four hits, including a pair of triples. Simione also ripped four hits in the win.
Westmont loses
The Westmont girls' softball team dropped an 18-0 decision to Leland in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the BVAL last week. The Warriors, who slipped to 0-2 in the division and to 6-7 for the year, were victims of a perfect game by the Chargers.
Panthers win
Kaity Gorman blasted four hits to drive in three runs and lead the Prospect girls' softball team to a rousing 16-4 win over Liberty Baptist in nonleague action.
Nicole Ivers was the winning pitcher for the Panthers, striking out eight and allowing just two hits. Ivers also belted a pair of singles in the win.
The Panthers are 3-5 for the year.
Falcons fall
Saratoga lost 7-4 to Monta Vista later in the week despite three hits by Clancy Roberts and two by Marisa Moore. Moore belted a double for the Falcons.
Saratoga trimmed the Monta Vista lead to just 5-4 with two runs in the fifth, but the Matadors picked up a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to clinch the victory.
