Olympic Development

Area soccer players were among those selected for the Olympic Development state teams in the different age divisions for girls.

Stacey Caro, Amie Salfen and Marcia Wallis of Los Gatos were each named to the under-16 squad, and Katie McBain of Saratoga was picked for the under-15 team.

Earning berths on the under-14 team were Kelly Sweitzer and Megan Gurney of Saratoga, Yvonne Bailey of Cupertino and Tatiana Gusmao of Sunnyvale.

The players will now try out for the Olympic Development regional teams with those qualifiers advancing to national tryouts.

Women's Golf

The Fore Women's Golf Tournament will be held April 19, 11 a.m., at the Sunken Gardens Golf Course in Sunnyvale. The registration fee for the two-player scramble tournament is $43, and the deadline for entries is April 12. For more information, call Rosiland Bivings at (415)964-8219.

Men's 35-Plus Basketball

The Saratoga men's 35-plus spring basketball season begins April 26, and sign-ups are now being accepted for the 10-game season. Games are played Saturday mornings at West Valley Community College. Players must have been born before April 26, 1962. For more information, call 868-1234.

Adult Softball

The Saratoga adult softball league is now accepting new coed and men's D league teams for the coming year. Teams will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for the league season that runs April 21-July 31. For more information, call 868-1234.

Summer Soccer Camp

Veteran soccer coach Mani Hernandez will head up a summer soccer camp for girls of all ages July 7-11 and 14-18, 9 a.m. to noon each day, at Presentation.

Hernandez, a former professional player who is now a successful girls' soccer coach at Presentation, will be the head instructor at the camp. The cost is $100 per player ($170 for both camps).
