Saratoga volunteers awarded silver bowls

Saratogans JoAn Lambert and Duane Heinz will be presented with silver bowls for outstanding volunteer efforts at the 28th Volunteer Recognition Luncheon sponsored by the Junior League of San Jose Inc. on April 25 at the Fairmont Hotel.

Lambert, a member of the board of directors of InnVision, which provides shelter for the homeless, is coordinator of the organization's annual silent auction, which raised over $11,000 in 1996. She is also working on a golf tournament to be held May 30 at Seascape Golf Course in Aptos.

"She's a powerhouse of energy," said Jan Bernstein, InnVision's community relations coordinator, who nominated Lambert for the award. "It's so apparent she does the work she does because of a sincere desire to help other people."

InnVision operates four shelters, which it calls inns, in the Santa Clara Valley. Lambert got involved with the program through the Los Gatos-Saratoga Chapter of the American Association of University Women in 1986.

"A lot of women and children were homeless and needed help," Lambert said. "We felt, as women, we should do something."

Heinz is a volunteer with the Chinese Historical and Cultural Project and was co-chairman of the 1996 Chinese Summer Festival, responsible for organizing and supervising 20 committees working on this cultural celebration.

He became involved with the group through De Anza College, where he teaches science. He was then president of the De Anza Chinese Students Club, and he had always had a fascination with Chinese culture.

Heinz also was responsible for staging a traveling Anne Frank exhibit last year in Mountain View.

The Junior League gives 25 silver bowl awards each year to volunteers.
