CABLE TV TRANSFER APPROVED

Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga have all approved the ownership transfer of their cable television provider from South Bay Cablevision to TCI of Cleveland, Inc.

The councils for all three municipalities voted in favor of the transfer, but Los Gatos Assistant Town Manager Jim Piper said the change won't take place until Mountain View, Santa Clara and Milpitas also approve the transfer. Piper said these cities are due to vote on the issue this month.

The West Valley municipalities had held their approval of the transfer until the Santa Clara County District Attorney finished its investigation into South Bay Cablevision for unfair business practices. In a settlement announced Feb. 21, the cable company agreed to refund $1.2 million in late fees and connection charges to customers who overpaid.

On March 5, TCI announced that it would raise its rates by as much as 15 percent in June.
