Cirque San Jose opens

When Cirque San Jose opens its newest show, "Spaced Out," on April 26, Saratoga residents Sharon Allen and Amity Hartman will be among the featured acrobats and gymnasts.

Patterned after Cirque du Soleil, Cirque San Jose combines the storytelling traditions of the theater with the thrills of circus acrobatics. Professionals from the Moscow Circus and Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey's Circus are joined by students of Taylor's acrobatics-gymnastics performance group to perform as Cirque San Jose.

Allen and Robin Stevens of Los Gatos begin their association with Cirque San Jose after attending Taylor's gymnastics summer circus camp in 1992. Since 1994, they have been members of Taylor's performance group, which last year formed Cirque San Jose. The young women perform acrobatic feats together.

Amity Hartman joined the troupe in October, 1995. She performs circus gymnastics on the Russian pole, floor and trampoline. Before her involvement with Cirque, she was a gymnast with West Valley Gymnastics.

Cirque San Jose performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. April 26 through June 1, except for May 24 and 25. Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for children. All performances are held in a renovated warehouse at 634 North Eighth St., San Jose. Call 295-ACRO for more information.
