Citizen of Year nominations due

Nominations are now being accepted by the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce for the annual Saratoga Citizen of the Year award. Applicants will be judged on quality of service, dedication, leadership, initiative, responsibility, innovation, and compassion. The winner will be honored at a dinner hosted by the chamber on June 2 at the Saratoga Country Club. Applications are available from the chamber office at 20460 Saratoga-Los Gatos Road. The nomination deadline is May 8.

Town Hall meeting

The Saratoga City Council holds a Town Hall meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20 at the Senior Center, 19655 Allendale Ave., to discuss implementation of Measure G, the neighborhood preservation initiative recently passed by voters.

Budgets for 1996-97 and 1997-98 also will be discussed, along with placement of a utility users' tax on the November ballot.

The next Town Hall meeting is scheduled for July 13.

Cable subscribers may get a refund

Saratogans who subscribe to South Bay CableVision may be eligible for a partial refund of $10 late fees paid between Sept. 1, 1991 and Nov. 30, 1994. The refunds come as a result of the settlement of a consumer-protection action between South Bay CableVision and the Santa Clara County district attorney's office in the Santa Clara Superior Court case People v. Brenmore Cable Partners, L.P. South Bay CableVision customers can file one claim for a $5 refund for each $10 late fee paid.

Current customers will receive an official claim form in the mail. Former customers can obtain special claim forms at Saratoga City Hall, located at 13777 Fruitvale Ave. All claim forms must be mailed by June 17.

Marcia Kaplan chairs Planning Commission

The Planning Commission elected Marcia Kaplan as its new chairwoman at its April 10 meeting. Kaplan replaces former chairman Henry Murakami. At its April 9 meeting, the City Council reappointed Willys Peck and Norman Koepernik to the Heritage Commission and selected Carolyn King to replace Mitch Cutler, who chose not to reapply because of other time commitments.

The Public Safety Commission chose member Belinda Heerwagen to be the Bicycle Advisory Committee's new chairwoman at its April 8 meeting.
