    Voters approve Measure F

Saratoga Fire District voters approved Measure F, a bond measure for a new fire station in a special election on April 11. Eighty-eight percent of the voters approved the ballot measure and just 266 of 2,367 voters opposed. More than half voted with absentee ballots.

While SFD Chief Ernie Kraule was not surprised by the bond's passage, he was surprised that 88 percent voted yes, a number that he says is above average. He says the outcome is outstanding and shows that voters were very informed and supported the project.

"I felt that in talking to people, the consensus was that a replacement of the building was necessary," he said. "Especially, emergency services are very dear to people's hearts."

"Voters really understand the importance of having a seismically safe fire station," said Kristin Haffert of the Oakland-based political consulting firm, The Lew, Edwards Group. Haffert managed the Measure F campaign.

She said that on April 11, the campaign volunteers received the results of the absentee ballots around 8:30 p.m. and the final results around 10:30 p.m.

"We had really done well with the absentee ballots," she said. "At that point the numbers were really looking good."
