Art group hosts a painting demo

The Saratoga Contemporary Artists invites all interested members of the community to attend its April meeting, at which time Berkeley-based artist Nina Deckert will give a demonstration on painting landscapes in acrylic. Deckert holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts, has worked as an illustrator and commercial artists and has participated in many one-woman and group shows. Her presentation at the SCA meeting includes an overview of acrylic products and how they are used; she will also pass out free samples.

The meeting takes place on April 20, at 7 p.m. at the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave., and is free of charge. The SCA is a community organization that promotes the arts and lets artists of different levels and styles socialize, network, review each others' works and occasionally paint together. For more information, call 408.866.1309.

Comedian brings her eclectic show to Blue Rock Shoot

Local comedian Jacqi Bowe presents her "alter-eager" Pam'la Pesto Perfekt in a stand-up show she bills as "an emotional garage sale" on April 20, at 8:30 p.m. at the Blue Rock Shoot coffeehouse, 14523 Big Basin Way in Saratoga. Among the quintessentially Pam'la skits Bowe has planned are how to feng shui the psyche, bedtime stories for the sleep-deprived, ancestor resentment and the truth about Walt Disney's moustache. Allen Dougless joins her on the piano. Admission is a sliding scale of $5-$10 per person, with a free comic book awarded to the first in line. For more information, call 408.241.8318.

Hakone Gardens plans art class series for kids

As part of the various classes in the visual and creative arts that it offers to the community, Saratoga's Hakone Gardens has scheduled a six-week series of classes for students, 7 to 14, titled Art for Young People. Taught by professional Los Gatos watercolorist Amy Konsterlie, the classes explore the basic concepts of drawing, painting, beginning watercolor, simple print-making and other techniques.

Classes take place on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Call the instructor at 408.353.4447.
